Movie review
When I first watched Refn's Drive back in around 2011, I thought it was a good film. The action was impactful, the driving scenes were exhilarating, and it had a great cast.
In 2024, it’s still great. The screenplay, the music, the sound: it has a lot going for it. The movie still looks great. And all the performances, from a very loaded cast, are fantastic.
I think I enjoy this movie more now than I did when it first came out. I have a lot more appreciation for the quiet moments, all the slow bits I once disliked. These moments truly add to the film, making Drive a film that's simultaneously romantic, violent and an ode to the 80s crime genre.
I have to admit, I don't care for most of of Refn’s work (though it’s been a while since I watched any of it). Drive always felt like the one movie where he got it really, really right with the right mix of action, violence, plot, and style.
Are there any animals in Drive
No.
Should you watch Drive
Drive is a beautifully shot, but very violent, genre piece. It has fantastic performances, a memorable soundtrack, and is a satisfying in almost every aspect of it's short 100-minute runtime. Highly recommend for anyone that isn't bothered by on-screen violence.
