Directed by Robin Pront, The Silencing is a thriller about a reformed hunter trying to track down a killer that may have kidnapped his daughter years ago.

Predator fan receives Chewbacca suit by mistake
I knew I wouldn’t, but I had really hoped to enjoy this more. I guess, on some level, I was hoping to have found one of those underrated gems. Sadly, that’s not the case.
The good
Starting with the good, the actors all put in solid performances. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau does a great job of embodying a grief-stricken hunter that hasn't yet come to term with the loss of his daughter. While Annabelle Wallis brings a measured approach to the town sheriff.
The mediocre
To the mediocre, the directing and cinematography is fine with nothing really standing out as very good or particularly bad, which is a bit of a shame as Pront has shown himself of more capable work in the past.
The bad
And then…there’s the script and the story. Both are... bad. There are a few interesting twists that are never well-utilised. And one big one that happens….and then is almost completely ignored.
Animals in The Silencing
Rayburn the protagonist has a dog. Check out our post to find out whether or not the dog dies in The Silencing.
Should you watch it
Sure, The Silencing is fine for what it is (a lazier, lower budget, less-layered Wind River). We did find ourselves zoning out quite a bit during the film, but again, it's fine for a low-stakes Sunday watch.
