We meet Jane's cat, Max, early in the season and he is shown from time to time. He is never ill, harmed, or abused in anyway (it is assumed that he patiently waits, and is self-sufficient whenever the Smiths are away on spy missions). However, near the beginning of the Season 1 finale, Max is shot and killed while waiting to be fed by Jane.
Max's corpse is briefly shown bleeding out on the kitchen island. And we seen Jane's pain at the realization that her furry companion has not survived.
