John has a beagle puppy named Daisy, left (as a companion) to him by his deceased wife. During a home invasion by some of the film's primary antagonists, Daisy is kicked by the villains, and killed shortly after. The death takes place offscreen, but Daisy's corpse is briefly seen as John grieves her passing. He buries her soon after.
